concept

van ports

guys with external van ports, can you tell me what fixings are on them please?

i am thinking of making my own, as i think at £25 i could make one for a lot less, and fairly easily.

will let you know how i get on with it, if i can do it cheap enough, may knock a few up on request!

all you need on them is either hoselock males or females
3 or 4 bolts and nuts job done, easy to fit on a transit

just poke holes thru the rust 8)

what do you want van ports for?

if its for the reels i would just mount them to the floor.

every person that has come to work for me says how much easier it is with them bolted to the van floor. i can't understand having them outside using ports ???

any hose will can be shut in the doors and still work done it for years and I have got ports which we never use
now for the inconvenience of having to unplug the hose which then gets air trapped inside so when you re plug and wait for the air bubbles to stop spitting, what a pain we just leave it connected to the reel all the time and shut the doors if necessary

And your safe contractor approved  ::)
Van mounted equals more of a trip hazard.
Let alone you have to leave your van open to do this..
Have to add though if in someone drive I leave the reel in the van, I guess I have best of both worlds  ;)

no more a trip hazard than a reel on the outside!

you can still lock the van and it operates properly. if you wanna be mucking about with your reels be my guest. i'll be the one earning more cash as i ain't peeing about!! ;D

steve i think youll find that taking the reel in and out the van will only be a matter of seconds differance, also you can aim the reel in any direction you want so doesnt matter what direction your van is facing, also i agree with ian about trip hazard as it will be flat to the floor even if pooling at 90 metres away as its not about a foot off the groun,

out side van ports are also used for filling up your tank at night
so you can lock it up
if you only have a fill and drain and use your hose reals that are bolted to the floor
my insurance company gave me discount because when i work the vans locked up

When this thread started, or when i started reading, it i wondered how he was going to put in proper roller ports in for less than £25.

I have been looking at this myself, yet to over come the wheels as a problem, out side van this is avoided hence why my reels are outsde and not attched to the van

The trouble with a push fit connection like a hozelock, is that they dribble and leak before the water comes out the end.
I find it better to have a permanent connection between the pump and end the microbore. Less faffing about. Turn on and go. Proper flow from the off.

No, I have about 4 feet of hose between that and the pump and leave it outside the back door. Pointing in whatever direction i'm heading.

i have my reels out side on both vans, and use hose locks on outside ports, I do get the odd drip but it is out side the van so not a problem, do you have a pic of your connections at all from pump to hose reel ?

No pics but i can describe.
Until before xmas my setup was 400 litre tank with inch hose connected to a flowjet pump with jubilee clips. On the outlet of the pump i had about 4 feet of inch hose connected with jubilee clip at the pump and a hozelock fitting on the reel.
But, my pump burnt out and in place of the flojet, the pipes are connected to a mark 1 freedom trolley. So same setup but a trolley in place of a flojet pump.
But because i have a handful jobs where it is quicker for me to use the trolley, i now have a hozelock connection at the reel (as before) plus 1 at the other end where the pipe meets the trolley.

just to add, my experience has been 1 hozelock no problem, 2 hozelocks and there is pressure lost which leads to it dripping at the hosereel.

pre drilled yes, but cant remember about the bolts, I know they cost about £1.50 in b&q should they not.
