My opinion may be considered biased, but IMHO, the NCCA coarse is superb. It covers most of what can be absorbed by a newbie but at the same time is of value to more experienced technicians. Should you wish to join the Association, it is probably the cheapest way of gaining the necessary training.

The two IICRC courses ie CCT and UFT are both 2 day courses (4 days in all) and cover much of the same ground as the NCCA, but probably more in a technical way rather than "hands-on".  A valuable course but, IMO, perhaps a little intense for most newbies.

As for manufacturers, I have done the Prochem course and it was superb.  OK, the products used are branded but it doesn't detract from the courses content. From memory, they run a two day carpet course for newbies or a one day course for more experienced techs who have received other training. The upholstery is a seperate one day course. Best check with Prochem in case I'm wrong.  Quite often, if you purchase a new Prochem machine, you get a free training course too. Check that out with  Express Cleaning Supplies  above, this site's sponsors. Prochem run courses from their HQ in Surrey and also around the country.

I hear a lot of good things about Cleansmart in Nottingham, and the couses are run by Derek Bolton, a former NCCA Trainer, so you can expect high quality tuition.

Alltec have a good reputation for their own courses as well as IICRC. Paul Pearce is their instructor and he's probably regarded as the nations leader in this field.

You could always ring Chemspec in Yorkshire and see if they have any courses to suit your needs. I did their Woolsafe course with Julie Roberts and it was outstanding.

Safe and happy training :)

I did the Cleansmart course at Nottingham with Derek and it was excellent. It's a 2 day course one for carpets and the 2nd for upholstery.

Mat will also help you out with an unbiased opinon on new gear / chems as well.

any course is better than none, i did the ncca and prochem and loved them both, cleansmart with paul, (derek bolton top man) upholstery day. and advanced stain with paul pierce, another top man. iicrc leather and ltt 4 day, planning a few more as well. the confidence you get from courses pay for them selves, do as many as you can afford, thats my advice.

I think it's a shop called the big clean in Ewell, run by the guy from Southern Counties.

I have been on the NCCA, IICRC and Altec's 'Hands On' this year.

All very good.

NCCA is the most expensive and so unless you are near Leicester or intend on joining I'd recommend the IICRC (solely on budget).

Paul Pearce ran all three (with Pawlo Woloszyn for the NCCA).  Both very knowledgeable and nice guys to boot!

Yes, the NCCA course costs more than the equivalent IICRC's, but it doesn't at the same time.

NCCA is a two day course to cover carpets and upholstery. The IICRC is four days for the CCT and UFT equivalents. Then you've got accomodation to add. The minimum for NCCA is one night if you're not local. The IICRC is a minimum of three nights.  If you split the IICRC up and just do one course at a time, then that's just two nights accomodation but two lots of travelling expenses.

Finally, although training is an investment in your business, with IICRC you have a minimum of two extra days when you can't drag a wand to earn some money.

Safe and happy learning :)

Pay me £400 and I'll turn you into a carpet cleaner in 3 days

you finish up with more knowledge than 10 carpet cleaning courses.

1 on 1 training in real homes doing real carpets. visiting carpet shops and examining real carpets, can't promise you be sat behind a desk falling asleep like on the NCCA course but it will be fun

£400 includes a slap up meal at the best c****ie in Hull with 5 other carpet cleaner whoms brains you'll be able pick. ( that's if the food not up to scratch :D :D )

I've just heard that Dave at 'The Big Clean' in Epsom, is running 3 more courses on tue/wed/thu 26-28 may.  Paul Pearce will be performing, tuesday will be Carpet cleaning, wednesday - Rug cleaning and then Spot & Stain removal on the Thursday.  Cost will be around £50 per day.
I am going to book onto the spot & stain removal day - can always do with some tips on stains !
