0800 definately 0845 are changing their local rate number soon to something else also ask an older person what 0845 is and they think premium rate, trouble is some mobiles can't ring either number.

Smart numbers could be good but people still look for local numbers ie where I live the first 3 numbers determine where you live in the city.

I would think everyone knows 0800 is a freecall but 0845 is not as well known so might confuse, I don't know how much a 0845 would cost me.

0800 has always been free! 0845 sounds like you pay them plus phone call charge? think things may have changed.?

I use 0845 i paid £9.99 for the number as a one off charge.
I make sure wherever i advertise this number i add "Local rate call"
I used to have an 0800 number from BT and the bills were quite steep, i didnt mind paying for potential customers to call but its all the sales calls etc that bang up the cost

I've found that's true. I've tried 0800 and I just got junk calls. Some customers even said they did not trust '0800' numbers as it was not clear where the company was based. I look for my local code and i'm sure most people prefer it. Calling 0800 on a mobile also is not included in mobile packages and could cost a bit.

Called a 0845 number (from land line) twice today both diverted to Orange AP put the phone down strait away, thinking it would cost me (why I don’t know with sky) now getting hot under the collar, machine did arrive.

London a nightmare 0208 outer 0207 inner now 0203 Greater, now have to ask where are you?

mobiles having loads of free minutes is why i won't take a freephone number, there not free for mobiles. i use my mobile to ring all 01 numbers and it don't cost me anything, more and more people use there mobile to phone just to use up there free mins.
anyway thats why i aint got an 0800 number, plus the local number reason given above.

get in the town centre with a clip board and do a survey on 0800 V's local numbers, might even get a few custies while your there.

It can only be 0800. Its a no brainer. They both say to a customer you may be out of towners  .  I've got an 0800 number and its never been very busy. People will always think they aren't getting a local company if they call 0800. But for £11.75 a month it will always pay for itself.

 Think you would be better with local number diverted to your mobile as I prefer to deal with local companys but I do call 0800 for quotes

I was reading something yesterday that said that local numbers will out do 0800 numbers by upto 7 times for calls if the customer wants a local tradesman but what is local? if you buy a local std the following local bit after isn't always the exchange to the area you are aiming for.
