Put it on the Slate....!
« on: March 19, 2009, 03:01:40 pm »
Hi all,

have had a request to quote for the cleaning of some African Slate floor tiles, multicolours and some damage/staining due to wet flower tubs.
I haven't cleaned this product previously so any suggestions are welcome.

Well 60 people have looked but no suggestions tells me I won't be expecting a huge response to my question.... :'(

However I have been able to find out that the tiles are supplied by a company called 'Fired Earth'.
They sell quite a few unusual tile styles....all cost an arm and a leg  :o

I'll be giving them a call for advice on the cleaning procedures.

I thought I'd mention it as you never know, you might be asked about African Slate Tiles yourself sometime and now we're all abit wiser.

Les  ;)

First of all you need to do is clean the floor with AQUAMIX Heavy duty tile and grout cleaner, you will need a rotary floor scrubber with a scrubbing brush, you need to wet the floor with the cleaner and agitate with the floor scrubber, only do small areas at a time around 4sqm and let the cleaner dwell on the slate for around 5 to 10 Min's depending how dirty they are and do not let the cleaner dry on the floor, then you need to wet vac the dirty water up. Once you have done the whole floor you will need to wash it with just water to remove any of the cleaner this might take a few washes and clean up with a wet vac. once the floor is dry you can reseal it with AQUAMIX Enrich 'N' Seal. Just follow instruction on the label, i use a paint pad to apply the sealant. My main buisness is natural stone fixing and cleaning i these are the best products on the market, if you need anymore advice let me know.  ;D

If customer wants a sheen then yes, use the high gloss sealer, or the floor shine and hardener. Speak to Dave at www.tradetiler.com he might do you a better price.

Hi, and thanks for the advice.

I wonder if you're method and product will help with the issue of what appears to be limescale, as shown in the photo.
Apologies for the poor quality but it was taken through the conservatory glass as the customer forgot I was going.....it had been 1 day since I'd spoken to her after all  ::)

Another local large cleaning company did it last time and she said they were a disaster, left the floor white with whatever product they'd used and had to return to put it right. Hence me wanting to get it right the first time or just say I'd rather not do the job.

I would use Aquamix Phosphoric Acid Substitute for that.
