Is a full round a good thing?
« on: March 23, 2009, 08:08:15 pm »
I have a few holes in my round and don't work in the rain. The last couple of weeks i've picked up five gutter cleans and haven't got to the silly season yet for conservatories, which makes me wonder if a full round is required when you offer add on services?

its good to leave a little bit of breathing space, allowing for bad weather, rough days etc, unless you just love the prospect of workin a saturday, i dont

if I could get away with doing all my customers windows in the rain without them moaning there heads off I wouldnt bother with add on's.

I only do gutters (today's two were a pig) when its wet to keep my working 5 a week.

full found good?? Of course just do them late if need be, better to have to much than not enough.

If you never want to expand or take on employees and just want to stick it as you are, then take on as much as you can but refine it more, price rise your low accounts, and raise you minimum, or only take on extra work in your prefered areas to keep things compact. I would get someone to give me a hand a grow.

I think you answered you own question when you said you have holes in your work.
I dont know what days of hours you work but there is always time for add ons for most window cleaners. many say they are full and they work 4/5 hours a day, that imo is half full. So in answer to the question yes it is required going on the norm subject to how long you work.

It is better to have to much than to little..... Don't fall into the trap of it might rain so get less it will cost you in the long term  ::)

I think i might stay as i am - i earn plenty, with the option to earn more from add on's when it suits. I think if i had too much work i would loose the flexibility i have at the moment.I don't want to be tied in to being forced to work every day. I don't want to employ, although i've had a young lad helping out today (he's very green though).

Ideally i wanna do 4 days with employee, and day 5 they go out on their own, i am very ambitious for work BUT i like having weekends with family, and have some time to do things i enjoy on friday i go biking unless i am catching up :( So i think having a day free is ok if you can afford it and do one offs to make your money up when you need too as you already have said :)

If you earn plenty why did you ask the question ? not digging just interested to know why.

If your happy with what you earn then you are full as you want and add on are the bonus of the job should you want to do them.

Easy, i asked the question because i wanted to know how others organise their work. Some are money motivated some are not. Every windowcleaner local to me tell the same story - none of them have a full round even after years of working. So a full round may be too much for one person to cope with.

I think like people have said, its better to be full than not, but i also agree that its can be stressful if you have a round that is do able if you could do 8 hours every day at warp speed, but then when you are tired or on a rare occasion :) the weather turns bad, you are miles behind!!

But like i said before, all depends what you are aiming to earn&achieve!!

You dont sound like you are struggling , work to live :)

it depends what you want out of your business, and the same goes for these people, it really is down to what you want isnt it, only you can annwer that.

Keep a full round. Best earners on time, bad payers last. Replace worst for new customers.

I never have a full round. I sort my commercial work into rounds that always get done a set day of the week (Mon, Tue etc.) in each month. What I try to achieve is that in each month I have 3 Monday rounds, 3 Tuesday Rounds etc.

This gives great flexibility to allow for illness, holidays and terrible weather (I don't stop for bad weather). If I filled all of my rounds I would not be able to offer such a regular and dependable service to our commercial clients. It also allows my sub-contractors some flexibility to catch up with other work where needed.
