New microbore hose low pressure help please
« on: March 19, 2009, 07:28:15 pm »
Hi Guys, can anyone advise please?

I have changed my hose on my reel from 100m of 12mm to 100m of 6mm microbore but now I don't seem to have any pressure to clean with.

Do I have to change all the hoses for the pump and the di and everything that is before the reel to microbore as well or is it the pump?

If you use a varistream you'll need to up the pressure.

You won't get anywhere near the same pressure/volume of water out of the smaller diameter hose due to the increased friction/drag on the water as it passes through.

However, you should get at least one and a half litres of water per minute.

I think it's pretty common to use 100metres of 6mm microbore - so you should get quite a few replies with other peoples experiences.

i use the shurflo 8000 whatsit pump with 100 metres of 6mm water doesn't come flying, but works well enough.
It's the purity that does the work, not the water pressure.

Which pump are you using?

We have always used 100m of Microbore with no problems at all, but it does depend on your pump. The 100psi Flojet will easily power up to 2 x 100m of Microbore hose.

I am using a Shurflo 100psi pump which gave a great flow rate with the 12mm but now the flow is so low I am struggling to rinse off

check to make sure 1 of your connectors it not playing up or you have an air lock somewhere. my mate has a pump the same and runs 200 metrres without any problem of microbore.

Thanks guys think I have found the problem one of the connectors on the shurflo pressure switch has burnt out.

Is it possible to replace the pressure switch or is it a new pump?

I would go for 8mm hose personally, I have three reels of 6mm and the pressure as not good, 8mm is fine standard hose fine

I have no problems running 6mm or 8mm with a varistream but i do find that the 8mm is a lot heavier to use day in day out, with 6mm i`m really surprised how much lighter it feels over the 8mm over the course of the week.

I guess more so it is what you are used to when you start, if you use standard hose then the water will be great 8mm less so 6mm even less so. I started with 8mm I tried standard was to much and to heavey, then 6mm seemed a little to slow, I have tap to conrol flow if needbe., I guess it is preference at the end of the day.

No pressure switch required with a varistream. Loads of us use one with 6mm  microbore no problem.
