White spirits on carpet
« on: March 11, 2009, 04:41:54 pm »
Got one on tomorrow where customer has cleaned a nail varnish stain from the carpet in a childs room with white spirits, says the smell and fumes means the child can't stay in there now.
They say there is no colour change in the carpet so doesn't sound like its faded. Told them it would probably need to be thoroughly flushed out.

There anything special I should use on it? Or just flush as much as possible?

Cheers Paul

Hi Paul

Just prespray with a detergent, allow a short dwell and extract hot.

I have used white spirit to remove stains for years but always make sure I rinse out.

By the way it's not a very good solvent for nail varnish, acetone is better.

Cheers

If its that strong a smell, they must have poured it on. I bet its in the underlay, best peel the carpet back to check. I coulld aso be in the floor. If so cut and remove wet underlay (Will need a new bit) floor will need ventilating to dry out. Clean back of carpet as well.

Carpet could also be delaminated. Check first as it may get damaged as you extract.
