Newbie with first quotes tomorrow
« on: March 06, 2009, 04:15:56 pm »
Hi folks.New to this lark and apologies if this has been done to death.I've got my first two quotes tomorrow after leafleatting in the North West Kent/South East London area.I've been practising like crazy on friends and families houses so I'm pretty confident. Is it sensible to let the customers know that I'm knew to the game or is that a definite no-no?I'm obviously determined to do a great job but do customers generally make allowances for window cleaners 'learning the ropes' or is it better to just wing it and say I've been doing it for years? The first quote is for an extension on a church with 30 or so windows, floor to ceiling, inside and out so could be a good earner so I want to make a good impression, needless to say (any opinions on pricing for that would be appreciated incidentally!).Cheers.

Personaly i wouldnt tell em i was new, i would mention that the first clean will take almost double time as the nature of most inital cleans, so if they think your a little slow they will put it down to the inital clean and not your lack of speed and confidence, by time you clean em again your speed and confidence will be flying. As regards to quality im sure you will do a mighty fine job, just dont push yourself timewise, just concentrate on doing a good job, as ive said before your speed will pick up every month that goes by and you will be to full speed in just a few short months, good luck with the clean dude

Not being funny but why should any customer make allowances for any service that they are paying for?
Would advise you, that if the windows are really bad when you go to quote ask the customer when they were last done and what are their expectations, based on the answer of how long since they were done. Take your time on the quote, even do a small area as an example to yourself of what the finish will be like. If you don't hit the customers expectations on the first clean, unlikely you will get follow ups.

Remember, when doing both in & out at the same time, every little mark will show up so it's important to make a very good job especially on the first clean. If it helps & all the windows are the same size, try to evaluate one window for the time it will take to do a good job in & out, multiply this by the amount of windows, allow a bit extra then quote per your hourly rate. ;)
