Best Bleach Rug fringes ?
« on: February 26, 2009, 01:43:17 pm »
Hello,

I have a problem with the white cotton fringes drying brown on a rug that i have just cleaned.

Can anyone recommend the best type of bleach to use the lighten them back up ?

Will normal household bleach be ok ?

thanks

White distiled Vinegar leave em rest then extract fully ( good rinse ) , Im sure that domestic bleach on the fringe will look great but they will end up falling off , however not all fringes are really white so be careful

My choice is applying the foam from, Fibre buff, Fibre shampoo and oxi brite mix and just leave to dry, sometimes needs more than one application but i always get good results.
Daft question, but have you cleaned them thouroughly?

ive never tried it but hydrogen peroxide is supposed to be the best for getting them lighter, paint on, leave to dry, repeat till you get the desired result, though a lot on here willtell you not to get them too white.

I'm with Derek

CAUTION - WEAR GLOVES as it also turns your fingers white.  ::) so I'm told !!

I will have to try your method Mark, sounds an easier way of doing it.

or cut em off and say to client "ah now that looks better , and its saved them getting dirty again "
then given the better news  " that will be £19 per sqm and £9.47 per sqm for fringe work "

Hi Guys

Mark's method of shampoo and Oxibrite is effectively hydrogen peroxide.

Cheers

Im with Mark/Doug here,

Oxibrite, Fibrebuff and Fibre Shampoo.  Never had a problem with this method.

The acidity prevents further browning.
The bleach removes from sight the staining
The bleach also removes previous browning
The fibre shampoo adds enough optical brighners to make them glow in the dark.

All adds up to white, although marginally damaged fringes.

Just make sure you make a fresh solution every 20mins and only use foam (not liquid) by whisking the brew to a froth.  Hairdryer can speed up the drying and allow multiple applications in undert an hour.

For immediate results spray on Rx spotter, rub with a terry cloth then rinse. Cleaned the fringes on the last 3 rugs this way and was impressed. Of course and oxidiser may be less effort but you dont know how it will turn out.
