apply sod mets dry, exactly over the stain.
place terry towel over the stain, then use a steamer through the back of  the terry towel, keep lifting the towel to see when the mets is dissolving, once desolved remove terry towel and blast direct on to stain, it will vanish before your very eyes, "now thats magic"
the terry towel is to stop the mets powder from blowing all over the place.
practice first obviously.

maximum heat and no over spray, tadaaaaa.

The use of " high heat " has been around as long as I've been cleaning carpets ( 25 years ) but there are obvious potential problems with synthetics and with possible colour loss.
That's why I alway's have a clean white towel and steam iron on board.

Derick,

Although I admire your inginuity ,and yes I can see how your method works, again be careful!

apply sod mets dry, exactly over the stain.
place terry towel over the stain, then use a steamer through the back of  the terry towel, keep lifting the towel to see when the mets is dissolving, once desolved remove terry towel and blast direct on to stain, it will vanish before your very eyes, "now thats magic"

applying the temprature you are talking about from a directly to the carpet can have its pitfalls, not only can the twist be heat set the dye its self can be heat set, so infact you can undo the twist and release the dye.

I have got to take my hat off to you Derek your not afraid to try new ideas!
Short of pulling the Stanley knife there is not much else that can be done on many stains
But as you quite rightly say you offer to improve the stain  not guarantee full removal.
And as you say your having some success with you off the wall idea of stain removal.

Its great living life at the sharp end every day's a new adventure

Well done that man.

To conclude:

Went out to look at the stain today, inspected the stained carpet, asked custy how long had the stain been there - her reply was ' About 18 months now, we didn't notice it till we moved the furniture last week' - GOD GIVE ME STRENGTH!!
