to me this is just try before you buy, nothing wrong with that, just like a test drive at the garage, or trying on a shirt and trousers, why is it lowering the tone?.
i personally think it shows confidence in your work.
just my thoughts,

Colin

why do you thin k high prices = success.
I agree you don’t want to be giving things away for free for ever but for those that are just starting it gives them a chance to get out there .

I’m doing a job for a bloke i know well tomorrow ,im just charging him for chems & petrol if he likes my work it could lead to a lot more . I know that if I charged him full price he would just get a rug doctor and do it himself .

he would never experience a professional job and not know the difference, this way I could end up with a cheer leader.

nothing risked nothing gained .

Ps

I don’t see pound land ,  netto ,aldi  or lidl going bust  .

There is a place for every one

ok i will bow to this one, needs must, it might help to build your business but you wont be doing that when your busy, i once ran an advert that offered a free clean and forgot to change it, then i got really busy and i was fending off prople who wanted a freebie!!
that said i would always do a free small area for a large commercial prospect if it could lead to a good contract,

What about this idea,it wont make a fortune but might earn a few pound....If were you live is similar to mine there are a lot of foreign nationals who live and work here mostly Polish and they have recently started opening their own food shops aimed at themselves not us (a little taste of the motherland ;D)
What if you could get a flyer printed out in their language with an offer maybe? and put it into these shops. They all live in rented accomadation and to get there deposit back they have to leave it in reasonable nick. They might not be big ticket jobs but im assuming their communities while they are over here are pretty close Knit so they all might end up using you.Just a thought what do you all think?

shaun, to be honest i can't remember! but it was along the lines of 'try me first before you buy' as long as it's less than so many sq mtrs, there were those that called me to ask for their hallway to be cleaned for free, i did a few and realised that i was a mug, i got around it by saying that it was only free if you had other work done at the same time which peed off a few people,
