Slate floor round a swimming pool
« on: January 28, 2009, 08:03:26 pm »
Anyone got experience of cleaning & sealing slate round an indoor swimming pool?

I'm trying to weigh up the options of surface sealer vs impregnator.  I'm concerned about slip resistance and also the effects of chlorine on either type of sealer.

The benefit of anyones experiences would be greatly appreciated :)

Just use Lithofin stainstop after you have cleaned it but make sure its thoroughly dried. This keeps the slate looking natural with a matt finish. You can get it at any good tile shops.

Andrew, ever used Aqua Mix Enrich 'N Seal before?  I've used a couple of Lithofin products and felt they just weren't really up to much.  Would be nice for a comparison.

You wouldn't use a surface sealer then?

To be honest, I've had a couple of bad experiences with impregnators in the past, water marks etc becoming permanent, so I'm very wary about playing with one on such a floor!

When you say "thoroughly dried" does this normally mean cleaning one day and coming back to seal a day or more later?  Or would it be possible on the same day with the use of fans to dry the floor?  Obviously a dehumidifier is going to be useless in a swimming pool area!

My main choice would be Aqua mix products, enrich n seal is a very good product and that would be fine.
try and use a water based sealant rather than a solvent based one then you wont have to worry about the floor being completely dry.
