WFP Rinsing glass - How much?
« on: January 26, 2009, 06:40:22 pm »
Rinsing glass that sheets when rinsed is easy and fast but I always tend to rinse much more when the water forms dropplets. Much of the time I try and drive all the dropplets down as I rinse because I'm worried about leaving marks even when I've cleaned the house many times before. It takes me longer to clean a house in this way...am I overdoing it? Should I be 'zigzagging' less times?

Thanks

Stu

when it starts getting hotter you can see results yourself, I would say your worrying to much but it shows you want to do a good job, beading glass can sometimes be better than sheeting glass, its all confidence and it will grow.

How long have you been cleaning wfp ?

Try doing it with fan jets, see the difference.

Been using WFP for about 8months now ian. Never really had any major problems, just want to speed up and earn a little more if possible + make my water last a little longer. Good point about checking when it's warmer...I never thought of the obviouse :)

I'm with Matt - fan jets appear to rinse hydrophobic glass much better than pencil jets.

However, there are different types/manufacturers of jets.

Some force the water out as an 'aerosol' spray.
Some force the water out as a 'sprinkler' spray.

I find it easier to control where the water goes with the second type.

Matt - what type have you got?

PS Matt - what about a different picture - I'm starting to think that you really look like that!

I have both sorts, but prefer the ones that give a fine mist. The ones that give a sprinkler spray seem to be a half hearted attempt at a poor pencil jet, they produce something that make you think you could p!$$ faster.

But fans are far superior for rinsing on hydrophobic glass IMO

That is me ::)

Perfectly sheeting glass can fool you too, the thickness of that sheet is deceptive, the top layer looks great but it can still leave small bits on the glass, you can notice this when you clean skylights and any glass that is not vertical. They look great when you first do them, then loads of little bits start appearing.
I just hope they blow away when they dry.

Those bits your talking about don`t  show up when dry unless the amount your leaving behind is in huge proportions.

I've been wondering about those just lately, but when I've gone back to check later I think the only people who will know they are there, are us.

I've noticed lots of those small particles which are quite difficult to rinse away since Christmas (it was the same last year). I have used fan jets bought from Gardinerpoles, I did them but used more water and unless you used lots of water had trouble driving the water down the glass.

Stuart

Try the ones from 'Cleantech' (sprinkler type spray) - they don't look much to look at, but they're very cheap.  I like them - but you won't have wasted much if you don't.

when i first started i used to worry about rinsing and the bits. used to rinse twice on windows which now i know was a waste of water. now i just scrub twice, making sure i go round all of the edge aswell and rinse by going across top of glass a couple of times then running it down window and still works fine. and yes all those little bits do dry fine.just make sure the top of the frame is clean and if you have to clean it aswell pretending it is part of the glass.if you have two pieces of glass on top of each other e.g. a small and big window i clean the bit of frame inbetween aswell every time aswell. i now do approximately 5 hours of work on a 250 litre tank which when i started used to only last me about 3 hours. hope this helps.

I'm a fan ( ;D) of fan-jets and not too soft a brush.

I used to also rinse more than necessary and have cut back a bit on this too. My dial type varistream I set to 12 o'clock instead of 1 o'clock.

I do less cill cleaning with the brush at the bottom of doors if they look gritty - I'll go back with an old towel just before I put my chitty through or knock for payment.

This means less grit on the brush for the start of the next job.

By using these measures I think I have sped up and use 50/100litres of water less per day than I used to. On a long day I would get through about 450/500 litres - now I can get all the work done on one tank full.
It's a game of three halves!
