Brass Cleaning - Help required
« on: January 22, 2009, 09:17:27 am »
I wonder if anyone can help,

We have just taken over a communal residential site with decorative brass handles on all the exits.  The previous cleaners have obviously used brasso and kept most of the plate around the handle up to a good standard.

Round the outside of the plate is a pitted, decorative surround and previously the cleaners have obviously not wiped off excess brasso and there is a considerable build up of the green residue that you would expect.

Small brushes (similar to hard toothbrush) have had little effect and anything more abrasive would scratch the brass.

The question is are there any products which would breakdown/remove this build up (either in situ or perhaps after taking of the plates and soaking them?  This is one reason the previous cleaners were ousted.

Any input would be appreciated.

Try wd40 or citrus gel with the brush
