Moleskin Sofa bed = Faux Suede?
« on: January 12, 2009, 12:13:01 pm »
Hi all,
I have had a call about cleaning a moleskin sofa bed.

Am I right in saying it's a type of Faux Suede? When my Drimaster wand comes back from Hydramaster, is that ok to use on it, with the TM?
Thanks in advance
Ben

if it is  a faux suede or a man made fabric which is bonded it will clean just fine, i often hand clean them with lots of towelling and microspliitters i also have a truckmount and unless its minging dont use it on this type of fabric..Simon

Never heard of moleskin being used in furniture but it was a common choice in trouser making many years ago. If mole skin s being used it would need to be treated as " hair on " leather.

He said he bought it from John Lewis, and with a bit of Goooooogling I came up with this site. It says Dry Clean only. Is this correct?

100% cotton.  presuming it's physically capable of extraction cleaning (can't tell that without poking and prodding it in real life)... avoid leaving excessively alkaline and try to dry it out ASAP after cleaning.

If it said "100% Mole" I'd be asking questions.

Test before you clean.

Is it recommended dry clean only because of shrinkage risk? Or because of dye stability? Or because of pile distortion?  All of these cases may respond to good wet processes and technique. But what if it's dry clean only because the integrity of the fabric could be compromised by water? Perhaps during the drying process?

Upholstery fabrics are becoming more and more complex for the cleaner. We can have a fibre that can be cleaned with water, but the fabric must be dry cleaned.

Safe and happy testing :)
