Abbey business banking warning
« on: December 01, 2008, 01:57:15 pm »
Hi Guys

I have had around five grand stolen from my abbey business account in the last few days through their internet banking. If anyone has an account with abbey then I would check your balances to make sure your account is right. Abbey are unsure how the fraudsters got hold of my details and I have not used on line banking for a few weeks. Also not sure how long it will take to get the money back and the account is now empty. Just be aware if you bank with them.

Sorry to hear that mate.

I think it would be worth using some anti-trojan software on your computer because it seems possible that someone may have got a key logger onto your machine, it probably hasn't but its better to be safe.

Thats not good! hope you get it sorted soon!

I had 3k taken out of my account (HSBC) BUT it was an ex employee that took a cheq from the back of my cheq book and cashed it  >:( when I found out he had left the area, lucky the bank paid me back as the twat signed it in his own name! and HSBC put there hands up and said they should not have let it go throught!

I get these emails almost daily.
'there has been some suspicious activity on your account, please log in to your online banking account with this link, use your usual password etc etc etc'
i get them from every bank possible, except the one I bank with. Soon as you click on the link, they got you.
NEVER click on the link that has been sent to you, go to the site manually.

Hope you get sorted out soon.
The bank defo will pay you back, as it is internet fraud.

Thanks for all your support. Hopefully I will get it back, Abbey have told me it should take about 10 days to get sorted but that leaves me with no money for business expensises for at least a week, hopefully everyone will understand.

Guys, what are some of you doing with 3K to 5K in your current account?

Don't be daft or lazy, keep what you require in your current account and put the rest into a savings scheme like an ISA.

Firstly, if someone robs your account, you'll not get that much stolen.

Secondly, you're earning interest (okay I know it's not much these days) on your money.

I'll admit, I don't know your businesses; you may need to keep £3K-to-5K in your current account; but for us regular window cleaners, just keep in there what you need and put the extra into something safe.

Abbey are warning of that email. The thing is that I am fairly safe I do not reply to any emails and have norton 2009 plus the new internet explorer. I have no idea how they got my details as I have not logged on for about 6 weeks.
