Snapped SL-2 today
« on: November 27, 2008, 11:21:27 pm »
A garden gate blew shut on the pole just as i was turning the corner of the house. All the force of my movement went through the middle of sect. 2 snapping it clean in half. Needless to say I'm gutted.   :'(

Does anybody know if these poles can be fixed?  ???

Yes, quite easily - but let Alex Gardiner explain...
It's a game of three halves!

That really is bad timing.   :(

If it is a clean break then usually you can effect a temporary repair by taking top of the broken section and sliding it up inside the bottom of the broken section and pulling through as far as you can. This gives you a reverse overlap of between 4-10" depending on where the section snapped. Wrap some duct tape around the join to prevent splinters and keep the joint together.

The above will usually keep you going for the day. When you get home you can make this more permanent by putting super-glue between the two sections and then taping the rough edge. This can usually last for many months.

A professional repair can be obtained from this firm:

www.polerepairs.co.uk/

This will be as strong as the original section and costs between £15-20 for a standard repair.

Yes I spotted that last week, cannot quite understand how it will work on different size tube sections (35-45mm) and still provide enough strength.

Is it just a plastic plumbing joint? Looks a bit scarey to me because i can't imagine it would be strong enough for a 60' pole?

Why don't you use a cheap DIY modular fishing pole for your routine domestic work and save your SL2 for 'best'?

It'll be just as good for your normal two-story domestic work, and cost about £20.
