« on: November 25, 2008, 08:13:26 pm »
I have just got some 3 floor town houses to do.The problem is on the 3rd floor they have French doors with railings in front. Is there a way to clean with WFP or am I back up a ladder to do traditionally?
Any techniques/ideas are gratefully recieved. :-\

I presume you mean a juliet balcony? These are the type that are just about 18' away from the glass?

If so, I do some 1st floor ones. You just have to angle the pole and try and squeeze the brush through. Never tried it on 2nd floor though.

Gardiners used to sell a svivel vikam brush that would do the job. Not sure if they sell them anymore

Personally i just brush the tops of the doors till the railings then rinse and rinse some more of the rest.

Sometimes all you need is a brush with a narrow profile stock (such as the Super-Lite brush).  Due to it's narrow profile, it's fairly easy to squeeze between the rails at a bit of an angle.  Alternatively, you can fit a swivel adapter such as shown below (shown on a Salmon brush) which will go between your plastic gooseneck and your brush and will allow the brush to swivel so that it will fit between the rails.  You will still need a narrow profile brush.

I personally just wiggle a Super-Lite brush through the railings.

hi, angle the brush you should be able to squeeze it through. Walk well to the side of the window to achieve a good angle once in clean as normal, then repeat angle to extract. Not easy but can be done on 2nd floor.

Worth trying to get the brush through first. If it doesnt work I suggest you get up there on a ladder and do it trad for the first time, and then every time afterwards do as Chris says - do above the balcony and rinse below the balcony.

Alex, just say your post. Does the swivel adapter lock in position?

It doesn't lock in position which allows you to adjust the angle whilst working.  It isn't floppy though and actually needs you to twist the pole to change the angle.  I know that some have modified this swivel to be able to be locked into position with a bolt or something similar.  I personally do not get on with the swivels (although I know many love them) and have used one for a day but have found absolutely no need for it ever since!
