Got a call today wanted a quote for living room carpet, from the phone code he was at least 25 mile away,so i gave him a extraordinary price.Next thing he said thats very reasonable ( it wasnt) and said he would be looking it done in the next few weeks.THEN......how would you like a website built and on google first page for £200!!!!! Has anyone else come across this kind of thing? ???

No - but I would not be too impressed and the conversation would be short.

Same as joe its a bit unfair way of getting the conversation going and if thats how he works i would put the phone down >:(

Am sure most of us would not work like that either ???

All they will do is throw a Google ad-words listing on for you, which you can do yourself, natural listings take a lot of time and effort to achieve.

clean his carpet, then change your mind about the website, that'll teach him.

Hi Guys

Had the same thing from Local Life this week, usual claims about being top for Southend which I know to be rubbish because I am !

Cheers

I get a few calls asking would I like more work .........then the sales pitch comes we have had a high volume of hits on line for cc in your area bla bla, nearly fell for it the 1st time but now I say Ive moved to a new post code area , give them them the name of the place and they say we have had hits from there as well ::)
then , I let them know there is only about 10 houses there and listen to them peddle backwards  ;D ;D

Yeah i like the way they say they can get me top on the first page.. well im already top on the first page for some results, and im on ad words and on the local business listings and ive done it all myself, so why do i need to give them £300??

They just look at your business name, and then any domain you use for that.. however i have circa 10 domains and at least one of them will be on the first page within the first 5 results for my keywords..

Come my new website in the new year which is better optimised for google, i should be holding my position if not bettering them.

I dont find residential work that good from the net comapred to canvassing - its the commercial side that are most likely to use the web. Therefore as im not really after commercial (i'll take it if it comes, dont get me wrong) i dont see the need for special online advertising, no matter what sort of facts (made up or real) they try to bamboozle you with..
