Car clean add on?
« on: November 14, 2008, 07:07:46 pm »
My customers often joke- you couldn't clean the car while you're there?

Well it's got me thinking, why not?

I would appreciate thoughts on this. How much would I charge, a fiver? It wouldn't take me that many minutes surely. The only problem I can see is dirtying the brush on oily wheel trims. I could use an old brush though, and i'm pretty sure I could do a makita drill attachment to do the wheels.

Is this idea a goer, do any of you clean your own cars this way?

I've had one customer ask me, but it's a different price structure isn't it?
Like you say, you wouldn't want to do it for less than a fiver, and they can get it done at the car wash for half that.

Can't see a market for it, unless you charge £2, then you'd be way better off doing houses.

I use car shampoo in a bucket with a wooly mit thing - and then rinse it all down with pure water, and its left to dry - spotless and smear free  ;D 8)

i know a couple of full time valaters, and it has killed their work,

£3.00 for wash and wax!

You're right, bad idea, I didn't realise prices were so low. At least squeaky got to put me right on a biz project for a change.

i wanted to experiment last week with my new hot water set up and offered to do clients minging discovery for a extra £10.................. bodywork no problem, then the bloody alloys needed loads of work and ended up taking ten mins by hand

i spent 3 times longer cleaning the car than the house and for a lot less money!

lesson learned , stick to window cleaning
bad weather always looks worse through dirty windows

I cleaned our black metallic car with a vikan sill brush - ruined it, every brush stroke put a hairline scratch on the surface. I had to polish it afterwards with a black pigmented polish to get it out. Brand new car too.  :-\

Any slight scratch on the car and that pure water will eat away at it. I used to use it on my old car and found out the hard way
