Just got back from a cream wool carpet with a week old fresh orange stain.
Got some of it out but orange spots remain.
Quite a large stain approx 12ins x 12ins.
Gave her a stain damage report in the end so she could claim for it.
Used stain pro and F & F Rinse.
Was tempted to use Red Ex but am not keen on the stuff on wool.
Thoughts?

Wool needs to be dyed with an acidic product to set it. Orange juice is an effective dye medium and contains citric acid.

Of the prime colours, red is the easiest to remove, followed by blue and the most difficult is yellow. I'm not surprised that you were unsuccessful.

To progress any further, and without any guarantee, advanced stain removal processes would be required. You did the right thing to stop when you did.

I'd have advised the customer that the spillage had caused colour damage to her carpet and recommended approaching her house contents insurer.

Told her to claim.
She paid for my time and the insurance will pay me as well now so good outcome although would have liked to have removed it.

You could have tried red rx either as a spotter or with the heat transfer method, i have had great success on a number of similar problems.As a final resort you could have applied an oxidising bleach or used other reducing agents. If the carpet is to be replaced anyway we sometimes have nothing to loose.
You did right to walk away if you werent sure though.

Used Red X before and it made the carpet too clean if you know what I mean.
Would have had to clean the whole carpet with it to get it to match.
And still it left some stain in.
Not tried the steam iron method yet, a bit wary.
