I was wondering if a monthly 'hours worked' poll would be of interest/benefit to the industry.

The idea would be to set up 3 different polls each month.  1 for new starters in biz 0-1 yr, 2nd poll for in biz 2-4 years & 3rd for 5+ years.

This would give each category the opportunity to see if their hours are poor, average or if biz is booming.

Those employing cc's would have to average out the hours in order to give a true reflection of what 1 person/sole trader can achieve.  I suppose the polls would also have to be split into 2 categories for domestic & commercial.

I think this would be a good industry indicator to see what potential ccing is or could be and if maintained a good yearly indicator to see if the industry is booming or flagging.  Your thoughts?

It depends whether or not people will be honest - bit like polls on "how much do you earn".

If people were really honest and included all travelling, quoting, cleaning, admin, maintenance,  stock replenishment (trip to the shops!!),  etc etc AND they added in the hours that they purchase from elsewhere (accountant, leaflet dropper etc) then it might prove useful.  Like many self employed people the actual hours worked can be enormous and the rate per hour overall diabolical.  Would I count in the time sat here typing this up?  If not - why - I wouldn't be doing it if I weren't in this business??

I will be interseted to see other peoples thoughts.

based on what steve said then i work average 12 hrs days 6 days a week.
