I got the small aesus 701 @xmas, & stuck windows on it. Expanys have some good deals now approx £150. Its solid state so you can drop it. Bought a cheap printer from Maplins and run one or the other, but not both  through a small car/caravan inverter.
Same as you wanted to take full George with me, I made a rule to do all the invoices and records on the laptop but work done on only the palm. But now tend to just take the lap with me- not as fast as the palm but I like its positive job done and you can check the history etc of each cucty.
Do it its great. I originally bought a cheap brickof a laptop but upgraded to the aesus 10/10. Good for nipping outside the house and checking the satellite weather on meteox so you can see where the rain is.  8) or keeping up with ciu.

Got the seller to download my copy of windows, its a problem unless you can download prog off the webor use a gadget that does it.
Another way of doing without a printer is to "print to screen" in George and write thegenerated  invoice number on a photocopy  invoice/chitty.
ps using the aesus now on my knee  :) good kit for the price.

Why not just get a carbon 2 page invoice pad, and write the invoice out, seems like very hard work to me.

Taking a laptop to work with me whislt window cleaning :o, I would never get any work done

You do have a valid point but with 500+ custoemers I do like the almost one click printing of the whole years accounts.

I meant for invoice to customer, and back up in office

hi
i dont only want to print invoices, as jeff says it is very usefull to be able to take full george with you, last week i did a job ,the last time these were done they were out, but on looking at my palm it did not show custy owing, i could not remember collecting it ??? , if i had a laptop i could have checked there and then via history, i had an idea i had ticked paid box when i did job. i could have got daily report up for that day, it would show if i ticked paid for that job, if not i could check when payment was collected . turned out i had ticked paid by mistake. as for hand written invoices , i think printing looks more pro , and records are all kept in one place.... george.

I asked in PC world about this yesterday and you can buy external CD-ROM drives for around £40 if required.

PC world! ouch, they are expensive. Go to ebuyer or the like. PC world are big because they charge expensively for people that know nothing about pc's etc.

Then again, i guess its like most stores out there..
