My pressure gauge goes up to 100psi, turned water on the needle flew straight past that and kept going until it went all the way to the needle rest!

What's the max pressure for 4040 ro's?

just dont ture the water tap on full then you wont get high pressure going to the ro

 some are 250 psi depends which membrane you have, our pressure is about 175 we make about 300 lt an hour  normallly before then most hose lock or other fittings dont like it will pop off

My tap pressure is not even 20 : the RO struggles because theres not alot of water and the pump is making good pressure

300 PSI max for a 4040, 125PSI for a 300GPD.

Although it does say :

These membranes produce the same product flow as the earlier models but at a lower pressure

(about 50-60% lower). A word of caution: Do not run these membranes at a pressure that will produce more than their rated product flow rate. This will lead to premature fouling of the membrane resulting in drop in permeate flow and higher TDS of the permeate.

Keep an eye on that.

Personally I would just crank it up to the max and start producing.

Does anyone know where I can buy:

• a decent pressure gauge to test my outside tap pressure?  (Most only go up to 10 bar, I need one that tests up to 15-16 bar.)
• An in line pressure regulator, to control the pressure that is coming into the system?

First Q : I would give RO man a call, and see if they've got some.
Second Question, you could buy a gas valve, that you could leave open in a certain position, easiest way is to buy a Dual shut off tap connector, from Gardiners, they've got two little valves on it that you could leave half shut, but like you said I would just keep an eye on it, perhaps switch the hoselock to straight barbs with screw clamps, or o rings. Hoselock will leak unfortunately.

I think you can be very happy that you don't need a booster pump anyway.
