Flushing a 40" RO?
« on: August 11, 2008, 10:53:33 am »
Is it possible? I've noticed after changing pre-filters i'm getting 012 now. It used to come out at about 006. I know you can back flush a merlin to clean to membrane but not sure about the 40"?

4040 membranes are very simple to flush. To do so open the waste outlet fully and allow to flush for about an hour after changing pre-filters. It is a good idea with 4040 membranes to flush the membrane for about 5 minutes before each fill.

I have a Merlin, and never back flushed one before, so be interested to find out how you do that!

You need the flush kit for the merlin.

I've just back flushed my merlin.
Blank off the feed and product valves. I did this by using short lengths of the same tubing and sealed the ends by melting them on the stove.
Remove the blanking cap from the top valve (this is the one the flush kit should connect to) and push some suitable tubing into it then connect the hose from your pure water tank to it and switch on your pump at full power. The water should flush through and come out of the waste pipe that you have not blanked off.
I presume I did it right unless anyone knows different? see my earlier thread
I flushed for 20 mins although I dont know if that was long enough.

No, just the water that's gone through the pre-filters.
