Some of the windows I cleaned today looked briliant before I had even started - nice and clean AND DRY.

It seemed a shame to even touch them!

After I'd cleaned them (WFP) they were left ALL WET AND DRIPPY.

Does anybody else feel funny/guilty about doing that (especially where the occupier is at home)?

I dont because I sell my service on the premise that once the windows are clean they will stay that way. Thats why we offer a regular service. As far as my customers are concerned dirty windows are a thing of the past!

Don't be too soft-hearted.

As long as you stick to your terms and conditions of cleaning frequency, don't feel like your conning anyone about turning up on time and cleaning windows which already look fairly clean.

Some customers like you turning up on time; they feel 'safe' knowing they've got a regular window cleaner.  Others may prefer a longer frequency (the tightwads), but as long as you adhere to what you and the customer agreed; you're doing no wrong.

And other customers could be like Wor Lass; and like their windows looking clean all of the time - she cleans our ground floor windows; inside and out; on a weekly basis!

I used to feel the same about cleaning clean windows but the fact is you are in business to make money so just get on with it
Also it is because of you that the windows are so clean its your hard work that has done it so reap the rewards i did one today a commercial job in and out the inside just got polished as they were still clean they want them clean so i do it

surely the fact that they look clean is the whole point
people who pay to have a window cleaner want to have clean windows
they WANT you to keep turning up on a regular basis
a reliable service sells better than anything else imo
just keep doing em mate
they SHOULD look clean if you are doing your job right

Wait 'til you've been ripped off by a few customers and taken for a ride with new cleans which are suppose to be regular cleans by deceiving customers. Your softly, softly approach to window cleaning will change with time and you'll develop a more business like attitude to your customers.

Good point there, i feel i give a top service to my customers even cleaning a few extras like porches and front doors and often it turns out to be a waste of time and effort. Very few seem to appreciate it and vast numbers put up with some of the shoddiest work around and won't change. When you get dropped by the "users" you begin to understand what the term - "a busy fool" means

But i whip out my pole and give them a good going over anyway

ive found since going wfp they are cleaner, i looked at some i did trad last week, when i collected last nite and the dirt that has accumulated already is unbelievable, its because of the fairy liquid its soo greasy it attracts dirt, and the sun light was bright when i was round so you cud so every speck, but they were cleaned well only 7 days prior!!

For a week or so yes. So it isn't that perfect if it leaves behind a soapy greasy film.

After 2 years I still get that 'guilty' feeling when I clean windows in the rain despite knowing that in general it does not bother the end result.

Just one of those things I suppose.

ok may not be all because of fairy lol, but I do know this is the reason for quite a few of the new customers and I know some are going to be a pain in the backside.

 Personally, this is the goal I've been working to for a year: To get to a point where the windows are staying clean and only need the minimal scrub and rinse. Quite a few ofmy customers are aware of this and find it appealing to have someone keeping on top of keeping their windows clean so they need not worry about it. I admit there is the oddwhinger tho'! But as said before, they are usually the tightwads that you don't need the bother from anyway.
