Things you like and dislike about WFP
« on: July 25, 2008, 01:49:24 pm »
It will be interesting to see what everyone like's and dislike's about WFP.

Dislike's
Me i hate some rubbers in UPVC windows as sometimes the join is put at the top and seem to leave spots where the join is.

I hate people with loads of plants as my hose is always catching them.

Always seem to be spending out on new stuff.

Like's

On most properties i find it quicker.
Its safer.
Being able to reach windows i could not traditional

Dislike Neckache!

Though I used to get this occasionally when I used ladders I get it more now I'm WFP.

However, I still prefer it to climbing up and down ladders all day, especially in the heat.

Not knowing if the upper windows are clean when leaving the job.

Louvered windows which the owners have left open.

Getting dog poo on the hose line...Grrrrr.

LIKES.
Its quicker and safer than using ladders.

You can clean over glass roofed conservatories.

Dislikes.
Lifting heavy trolley off of and onto van, and through some houses.

Hose catches on every bloody thing, plants ,shrubs, fences.

Air locks.

The time spent  producing and filling up water barrells then carrying them to van after heavy days work.

WHEELIE BINS aaaarrrgggggghhhhh!!!!!!!!!!  >:(

These days there isn't just one black bin but full colour spectrum of the darn things. If someone invents a device to allow your hose to float over them then they will make a mint.

hi
trying to park your van in the right direction if there is anywhere to park . I have my reels bolted to the floor inside the van so need to park in the right direction otherwise have to walk up the street to get the right length of hose to do the job and then walk back on yourself

I like: increased speed, simplicity of job, extra income (about 40%), easier on the body, safer, custys appreciating the thoroughness of the job.

I dislike: EVERYTHING the hose gets tangled on (particularly wheelie-bin wheels)

ALWAYS get within six feet of the furthest window when the hose stops on a snag somewhere - usually very close to the van.  >:(

Or doing the above then getting back to the window with enough hose but you find you forgot to turn the  pump on  :'(

DISLIKES
Dislike animal poo more than ever.

Wheelie bins - though they are easier with microbore than half inch hose as there is usually enough room on the axle to keep the hose sliding (if it isn't tangled).

Financially it can be like feeding a monster.

The thing that breaks is always the thing that I am not carrying a spare of.

Harder to work in a freeze up - at least with trad you could tip a load of screenwash in the bucket and carry on working.

LIKES
The money.  By the end of this accounting year (30/9), my turnover will nearly have doubled in three years.  Not all down to WFP but quite a bit of it is.

The speed.  Although on some jobs the time saving is small, there are other jobs (usually larger, more awkward ones) where I have literally halved the time taken and, in a couple of cases, do them in about one third of the time.

The ability to quote for jobs that I would not have given a second glance a few years ago - and to do so with some confidence.  Whether I get it or not isn't so important because the numbers game means I will always get a few.

The "bounce" factor.  Changing to WFP has got me enjoying window cleaning once again.

Wfp on about 10% of my round now slowly building it up. On 3rd cleans on some and really starting to notice a difference. Starting up wfp has got to be the biggest dislike for me, only now after 2 months i am starting to see what all the fuss is. Did some work on some awkward houses that i have always done with someone footing ladder. 2 could get it done in an hour and a half, did it wfp in 2 hours and im pretty sure i can bring that down to an hour and a half on my own. Going to wait a bit and then hike my prices up when the custies fall more in love with my pole. They are liking it alot so another few months and its going to be a right little earner.

reelin the hose in is a big dislike as well. Now im confident in wfp im going to get a backpack because i dont like reeling and getting hoses tangled up.
