« on: July 07, 2008, 10:25:17 pm »
A custy rang today asking if I would clean a mattress for them I said no.
i think it is immoral to do so especially when they want it for sanitory purposes as this person did.
any thoughts?

Some people want them cleaned for hygiene or allergy reasons. This is a service we offer. See www.silentmites.co.uk

The word 'sanitary'  is defined as conditions that affect health especially with regard to dirt & soiling.  Isn't this the kind of business we are in ?  ::)

yes we are in that business but aren't we also in the honesty business and  doesn't that mean that when a custy asks us to sanitise a mattress that has been peed on we should say no because we may be able to clean the surface but what about the inside?

Mike,
No I don't but cleaning urine stains on carpets and rugs is a whole lot differerent to doing it on mattresses. We used to do it all the time when we did hotels but only because we had to but there is no way on gods earth that any cleaning system can remove urine from deep within the padding of a mattress, so even when you've so called cleaned it the next poor bugger who comes to sleep in that bed is sleeping on someone else's urine and that makes it immoral.

If you follow this through to it's ultimate conclusion. You would expect every hotel mattress to be cleaned for every changeover, or at least to have every mattress protector changed.

Can't see it happen in your average hotel.

We had to de infest our mattress nightly in the Dominican Republic last year. Imagine living with that every night of your life ?

The accommodation was chalet type, rather than large building. We had a massive land crab in a hole about ten feet from the door and some holidaymakers saw strange rat like creatures scuttling around at night, a live snake even appeared in the swimming pool one day.

At least the stain in the mattress could be sterilised or at least covered !
