Thompson local or Yellow pages
« on: January 11, 2005, 06:32:00 pm »
Hi all,
I am going to put an advert in for the first time.
wanted to know what you good people thought, ie, is it worth it, what results can be expected, which is the better of the two.
Look forward to reading your views.
Regards
Griff :)

Hi Griff,

I have been in the Thomson since end of Sept and so far it has been really good. I have eanrt already about 3 times what I paid for the advert.

I have not advertised in yellow pages so can't comment on that one.

;) You get nothing of value for free so advertise in as many as you can afford.

Simple equation.....If people don`t know you`re there...they won`t use you!

If you want a 1 line entry in the `phone book section of these publications you`ll get that type of small response.

Run a continual advert in your local paper.....long term = discount!!

Advertise as much as you can afford because there is no substitute for good quality advertising......as for all those that will reply on here that word of mouth is best....and I would agree.....you can`t get word of mouth until you have done something worthwhile and even then you cannot rely on word of mouth.

At the end of the day, how much work do you want?? & how much can you afford to pay??

Have Fun...

Hi Griff

I had an advert for carpet cleaning two years ago in the Thompson Local and got didily squit on the phone call front.
However, using the Yellow Pages brought me in loads of enquiries and work!!
I would from personal experience always use the yellow pages. Yes it is an expensive advert, but done properly it will do wonders for your business.
Besides, I would rather spend the money on expenses than give it to the Tax man!?!?!
Take a look at how the competitors have done their adverts and try to do it better.
I did ask around before I did the advert, and nearly all my mates, family and even customers said the first place they would think of looking to was the yellow pages..... Yellow pages has done a superb job of educating people to use them.

All the best which way you decide to go...

I have advertised in the Yellow Pages, the new issue which is due out any time now..........we shall see. Incidentally, I have got a new customer purely by accident I assume as neither he nor I have any idea how my card popped through his letter box. It was one of a very few I had placed in shop windows. Nobody knew he wanted a cleaner, but is just appeared on his doormat one day, he called me and today will be his first clean!! How's that for good luck!
anyone with facebook can add me at this link ...  jan 'minkeedj' kindon  .... if you can be bothered lol

I put a ad in Thompson and it has been out  now just over a month. The responce has been great, I reckon it has paid for itself already!

I use yellow pages and yell.com have had most response from these.
you can pay interest free monthly -no great pay out if your starting off then chose a good name and win £5000 i did 2 weeks after placing the advert!! How lucky is that!

Good Luck what ever you chose!

Hi Judy,
Thanks for the reply, lucky you £5000 very nice.
Love the name, pics better. Is that you Eva, do you want to get married, I only ask, as I will have to ask the wife if its ok.
And the £5000 could pay for the wedding.  :)

Thanks again
Griff
