approaching commercial work via email?
« on: July 01, 2008, 08:48:35 am »
has anyone ever tried using email as a way of contacting companies you want to add to your customers?

You can google for their website and usually discover a contact email address.

you can then send them a fancy email you've designed about your window cleaning biz

does anybody think this would have any chance of success?

i suppose one of the benefits is its completely free.

I am in the middle of trying to design a email template just for this, I think it would have to get to the right person or would hit the delete box

I think it's much more professional to send a letter in the post.

Sending an email could be considered SPAM by the company and could just be binned because of it.

i have been sending emails out for some time and have got loads of work from it.

this is what i say

Dear Sir/Madam,
(your business name)
I have recently invested in a new technology that enables me to perform external window cleaning up to 4 floors high, all from the safety of the ground. I can now clean all your windows, fascia, roof signs, glass roofs, conservatorys and shop signs.  This system works by using lightweight carbon fibre poles and highly purified and deionised water that when dry leaves your windows clean and smear free. Because I stay on the ground, many of the normal health and safety concerns are a thing of the past, and it also means reduced disturbance.

Because this system does away with ladders and expensive access platforms (And the risks involved with their use) I am confident that I can offer savings, and improved results when compared to your current cleaners, and would enjoy the opportunity to provide you with a quote.

( your business name)  is a local company and is fully insured.

If you would like me to quote, for any of your window/sign cleaning requirements, or have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me on (your number) or via e-mail (your email)

Best Regards

i sent standard letter introduction attached.

generally i spend a day a week on the phone cold calling and obtaining an individual name to send too, most are quite polite and helpful.

its interesting that email does actually work then.

I think logically email is the way to go, its just so much quicker and conveinent than regular mail, and it helps save the rainforest as well.

i think there's definately no harm in trying email. i might have to give it a go in future

The one big potential problem using email for unsolicited commercial email (UCE) is that if the recipient complains to your ISP, you could lose your account over it.
