car based system
« on: June 26, 2008, 11:27:48 am »
Had a look at this on ebay and looks just what i'm after to run from the car.

Item number: 180255525538 a 5 speed pump box

So am I right in thinking now i need

1. A flat tank, 250l would be enough.
2. Microbore plus fittings

Im already using backpack but wanted to make life a bit easier when i have lots of houses together!

My water is already purified in-house.

Thanks

Hi
yes the ebay thing seems good and well put together, you may want a bigger battery though or to connect it to the car battery. Alternatively you could get a 100psi sureflo pump and digital varistream (on ebay) and a leisure battery for about £200. The 100psi sureflo pumps are more common, and some parts are availiable.
If you did buy these seperate parts you could bolt them in a small box for your car. The 5 speed pump box is good, though you may have difficulty repairing it if something goes wrong.
What car do you have?
A large tank instead of barrels is much less hassle, though check whether your car can take the weight. 250ltrs is 250kg +25kg for the weight of the tank, thats 1/4 of a ton, when i tried this in my car at the back it looked like it was doing a wheely, not safe!
Spreading the weight i have managed to take 200ltrs in a 1.6 car in barrels, ideally you would use a van or a trailer.
I have a flat 250ltr tank and Steel securing bars to bolt to the floor for sale and some other equipment that you might find useful for sale

On ebay there is also a 100m steel minibore hose reel for about £120, which is quite common, and sufficient length for most properties (300ft) which you can fix to the floor.

It all sounds okay but never seen it before myself.  I'd be a little concerned about the battery capacity.  250L might be near it's upper limit, especially if going through a lot of micro bore.  It doesn't tell you the flow rate of the pump either.

Simon.

this is in the new range of omnipole products, so you should get good customer support if anything goes wrong. The battery is sufficient for 1 days running, so you will have to charge it everyday. A 40ah 12v battery will last about 4 days. On ebay omnipole are also doing a 35ltr trolley system which could be a good alternative.

Thanks for the rapid response.

Agree it could probably do with a bigger battery, although i have 2 leisure batteries left over from my now defunct shurflo backpack.

I liked the fact its just a "up and away" set up. Seems very compact. Had a look on ebay but no varistream but approx £75. And £80 for a shurflo pump. Plus all the connections makes the Omnipole box attractive.

I am gonna be using a 7 seater Ford Galaxy with rear seats removed. Think maybe a 175l might be enough.

Not sure of the flow rate but there is 5 settings from an 80psi pump.

thanks

You might be on upper limit with 200ltrs.

Maybe another alternative would be a smaller tank and then take a few barrels to top up with if you get low, or have a bigger days work.

yes Rob, I agree. Checked and load weight is 452kg. Smal tank + barrels looks best option,
