Yellow Pages Again!
« on: June 16, 2008, 08:30:02 pm »
I placed a boxed Ad in my Local one last year
Was not that impressed with the results to date.
Was told by the Salesman it is always the second year
that brings in the results as people keep the old books ??? ???
Has anyone got any positive/negative feedback on them.
For those that advertised last year are you renewing yours this year ?

thge sales man is trying to sell it to you, I dont even have a yellow pages it goes in the bin when I remember to get it from outside.

The time has passed long ago where everyone uses it, they know this and it is the internet that will be there for the long haul.

I had a small ad and got nothing also, salesman told me the same thing. Did'nt bother to renew, but he was right i started to get the odd call 6 months or so later, domestic jobs. As im now expanding, i think i may give it another go with a bigger more detailed ad and see if its any better.

It's down to the area things again. I advertise in both Gloucester and west midlands south directories as I am on the border of the two. From the Gloucester one I have had a few jobs out of it but the other one is fantastic! I get calls from it nearly everyday. Part of this is down to luck as we share our STD code with Malvern and I am the only person in there with that code so I get a lot of people phoning who want to use a local company from their town (which I am of course not!) This was accidental and it took me a while to realise why I got so many calls from Malvern way but it has meant the advert has paid for itself many times over already. I do however see the yellow pages itself having a limited lifespan. In the long term I think that people will just search the internet. As time goes on we will reach an age where everyone has spent their life using computers and the net. They won't need bulky directories taking up shelf space and anyway no directories will be better for the environment. At the moment though the directories are still used by many people and the market leader is yellow pages  so I will continue to use them.....For now.  The others BT & Thompson I wouldn't bother with though. I have never advertised in them but I believe anyone who is looking for a businesses phone number that still uses directories will 99.9% of the time will look in the yellow pages. The other two in my experience won't even cross their mind. Someone else on might advertise with them and will tell me I'm   wrong but yes yellow pages can work for you but the other two - A waste of time.

yell.com I look on if I cant find what I am looking for using a search engine, if you do advertise in the yellow pages book I would defo have website address so it opens up the add to its full potental and at the same time limiting your costs, yell.com I would say can be a benifit.
What I was saying about the book is I dont use it when I did the last time it took ages to long to find thing which annoyed me you get to one page then see go to this page lar lar lar.
Advertising is advertising, if you dont try it you will never know if it works for you.

Like people say it all depends on the area your advertising in if you have a lot of window cleaners advertising chances are you will probably get less enquiries.

I use to advertise in the Wakefield book until 3/4 yrs ago and say if my adverts cost me £700 i would be happy to get back one £1oo monthly contract as I could then justify the outlay,as it was also a good tax point, I pulled my advert out as my target wasn't reached....the rep will try and blag you to sign up for there online book, again my target wasn't reached so I pulled the plug on that too. :( :(
