I have been employing sub-contractors for some time but I am considering making the jump to proper employment for one lucky person LOL. I will still use sub contractors for some of my larger work.
Any advice at all greatly received, especially regarding tax, NI and how people pay their staff regarding by the hour or work done or by bonus etc.

there are so many things that change when you employ it is untrue under 5 staff is less of a head ache.
some pay a flat rate p/h some min wage plus commision, others flat rate and bonus, every business is different only you will know what suits your business.
One thing I would say is to keep staff you have to look after them, subbies are totally differnt kettle of fish, I have done both and still do.
For tax advice ask someone that is qualified to give the correct details I could say what I would I do and some thing could be wrong in others eyes, I ask direct to IR on things like this as I dont want to do it wrong.
