Attended first aid course today
« on: April 21, 2008, 08:01:12 pm »
Attended a first aid course today with 2 employees, this was a realy good course & very informative. Another diploma to put in portfolio for commercial quotes.

This course runs monthly & is based just outside rugely staffs, included is the best buffet lunch i,ve had on a course. Its run by a member from my bni & is very competitively priced if anybody interested let me know. I,ve attended the fed iosh courses & feel this is a must for employing.

I was at the scene of a bad accident whilst skiing 12 months ago & at the time felt it best to not assist, but, to be honest so did other skiers. I must add i was about 50+ plus metres down steep slope so it was easier for skiers to come from above. But, nobody wanted to, it was probably noy long but felt forever for someone to attend.

It was a high speed head to head collision & both were unconsious, you could see the slope turning red around the head of one, i now know i could assist them or at least ensure that breathing continued until help arrived. So if nothing else its given me the confidence to help.

I,ll find out more info & prices wednesday.

Thats great ! as you say one for the portfolio, seems that many proactive organisations are going down this route so should get you brownie points.

Nice one Gary, I have done 2 of these courses.

You will know next time when a skier has an accident like the one you said,

After giving the inital treatment, you can use the snow to slow the bloodflow down.

Well done on the course, another one for under your belt, you never know when you'll need it.

Nice one Gary

I have to admit - I nor the staff nor my son have any first aid knowledge.  Your post has made me think, what if something happened at work?

I will definitely look into doing a first aid course and get something sorted this week.

Very responsible mate, well done.

I am first aid trained and used to run the first aiders in m previous job.
Never had to do anything much until last year when out on our motorbikes an horrific accident occured, somehow or other myself and another rider from our group managed to keep the lad alive for 20 minutes until the ambulance arrived (we were in the middle of no-where), but he unfortuantly died at the scene due to massive injuries.
The ambulance people were amazed that we kept him alive for so long, but that is no comfort really, although the others with us all still say they still feel useless and partly responsible due to the fact they couldn't do anything to help.

As my first aid trainer said, in a dire situation have a go, you can't make someone any more dead.

  RIP Gary

sad, very sad.

Although I love the bikes they are really dangerous.  I have a Yamaha V-Max (jap model) and my son has a ZXR 1000 RR (the new one), I wish he'd sell it, far too fast and he rides it hard as well.

I no longer ride on the roads, that day was the last time.

My race bike should be finished this week so will be doing track days and a few New Era Superclub race meets this year.
