Leaky wand
« on: April 17, 2008, 04:06:00 pm »
My Prochem wand leaks from the jets after releasing the trigger. Can I fix the valve myself or do I need to get it serviced? Its 5 months old.

Hi,

they are easy to service yourself, you just need to get a selection of o rings,

they are normally quite small and only cost pence, take the valve apart and

replace all the o rings, sometimes the spring needs replacing but mostly just the

rings, its a five minute job but well worth doing, you can  probably get an o ring

kit on ebay.

Is it the trigger valve that's leaking or a non-drip valve in the jet assembly? (this would probably be OK to just strip and clean)

Safe and happy cleaning :)

I am assuming its the trigger valve as it leaks enough to leave a puddle, even if the wand is left on its back.

Thanks for the other suggestions. Come to think of it the trigger feels quite limp, so perhaps the spring has weakened.

As Ken suggested behind the jets you should find filters ,which in fact are also valves. You can unscrew them and take apart /clean or replace as needed. While youre on you might as well put a repair kit in the trigger.

It's a common story, since the powers that be told the manufacturers to take the lead out of brass it now means the valves don't last. Replace the whole valve with a stainless steel westpak one, it's an easy job and as a bonus gives you the soft touch trigger. You might also consider fitting anti drip adaptors to each jet

Fixed. Cleaned o rings and replaced spring. Think it was simply a bit of dirt. Thanks for help
