John ultra pac works great on poly prop so you should get a result, need to prespray it and dwell/agitate. Not very cost effective but if nothing else on board it will have to do. Just make sure you rinse well.

How much per litre. I think the dilution rate is 10/1

Ultrapak or Fabric restorer both work well, like Paul says good dwell and I like to apply it nice and hot as it sinks into the fibres better aggitate so make it work better and hwe (I recommed turbos you can never be too sure)

Fabric Restorer on carpets  :o.  I know a CC that used this all the time on ALL carpets.  I used to clean the carpets from new every 5 weeks.  After about 5 months the carpets still only got visually lightly soiled.  They were approached by another TM company offering the clean at 2/3 of my price.  They used him for about 4 months then called me to see if i wanted the job back at my original price.  I got a little suspicious so arranged to go and meet with the Manager with a view too cleaning that day.  i was GOBSMACKED.  The carpet that was a Bright Orange/Red colour downstairs & Dark Blue upstairs were covered in BLACK RESIDUE.  My feet stuck to the carpet even in the entrance.  I asked if they knew what chemicals had been used & he showed me a half full container or PC Fabric Restorer.  I agreed to take the job on again but increased my price by 50% on the initial clean as cleaning time was near doubled.  Thereafter i charged them a extra 20% of my original price.  I took 3 or 4  cleans to get all the foam from the Fabric Retorer out.  The carpet was never the same.

Not the fault of FR, after all we don't get that problem on suites. Sounds like the guy was not rinsing properly.

You would have the same prob with any detergent based chem if not rinsed properly.

Rinsing Fabric Restorer from upholstery can be hard work so i can imagine it to be a nightmare on a 80/20 wool carpet.  The wool would have held alot of it due to the amount of moisture wool will hold.  I have Cleaned Wool Fabric suites in the past and have NEVER used Fabric Restorer for this very reason.

Ultrapac should be diluted 50ml per litre.

I don't have a problem with fab rest it freely rinses out when I clean upholstery, I can see through the hydro filter as it runs clear. Although different fab rest and ultra pak are from the same family of detergent based co solvents so if you have problems with one you are sure to have problems with the other.

Most problems are usually from the technician not the product, if the cleaning company have under cut your price then it goes to show that they have to cut back on other things. If there is a residue problem it doesn't necassarily mean that it was the prespray as it could be the rinse detergent or if they have used a post deodoriser.

yes you are correct, perhaps these chemicals aren't as 'un PC' as we may think??

Hi Guys

With a pH of 13.5 it almost certainly contains sodium hydroxide and would be expected to be quite corrosive.

I clean a commercial kitchen and use sodium hydroxide to clean the wire mesh filters , it is very effective on fats and grease.

Use with care and no it is not likely to be woolsafe  ::)

Cheers

Hi Shaun,

I have had spoken to another CC and he informed me that the guy used to lace the carpets with FR and water rinse.  When cleaned the carpets after him it was almost like cleaning a carpet that had been subjected to FOAM PARTIES hence the reason it took me various cleans to get all of it out.  I was having massive problems with controlling the foam.  Not in the waste tank as PC Defoamer sorted this out but ATW & in the hoses.  I had to keep a bucket of water/defoamer by me and kept putting the wand head in it.   It is obvious that the other company simply just quickly whiped over the carpet.
I have always managed to completely rinse upholstery of FR but compared to other chemicals i have used on upholstery it has been harder to rinse.

Richie.
