4040 Shut off.
« on: April 19, 2008, 04:39:22 pm »
Is there any way you can use a float valve and shut off manifold like you use on the 300GPD RO's?

It just seems like a lot of money, and a bit of a hassle with the solenoid switch, and +12v supply etc.

Here is an old post from the FAQ on the window-tools forum you might find useful www.window-tools.com/windows/index.php/topic,34.0.htm

I'm totally confused by that, I just don't get it, the tap water doesn't go from in the tank out? I'm talking about a van based RO setup. :)

It would work with a van tank as well.  With a ball-cock fitted, your water supply from your tap would go to the ball-cock fitting near the top of your tank.  Now the tricky part is attaching a pipe from where the water runs into the tank from the ball-cock, and redirecting it outside the tank again and through your water treatment system, with the pure water from the water treatment system going back into the tank again.  You can use quick connect bulkhead connectors for going out and back in the tank again.

Its a bit hard to explain, but you can give me a ring if you want me to explain it further.

Ah, that makes sense now. Two questions, I've got float valve which can take a cut off switch, two in/out lets on it, I don't think it would work with that, would it? And I can't see how inside the tank you can fit a tube going back in, the floatvalve doesn't have a connector like that.

And what are quick connect bulkhead connectors?

Thanks Peter, it's much appreciated.

I know, what does purefreedom use? The solenoid valve type? :)

I don't know about the float valve you are referring to, as I have never seen it.  The hard part is getting the tube fitted to the outlet of the ball-cock.  I have glued them in, and I have also cut a thread in it as well.  With the water going in through an extra connector at the top of the tank, the water eventually pushes the float up, and this cuts the tap supply going in through the ball-cock.  I used to have a diagram, I will see if I can find it.

The bulkheads are the type you would see going through the pump boxes.

Do you have a link for where to buy those Peter, I've never used a pump box.

Isn't there a ball cock with a normal threaded end where the water would go out? That'd make it a lot easier.
