Noticed there are a lot of Lawncare Franchises round this way I think they out numbering carpet cleaners and that will take some doing.

Must be a big market  or a lot of blokes will be broke next year

Has anyone looked into it wonderingif it could be a lucrative add on.

I use Green thumb. cost £20 a quarter, they take 15mins to do my garden. the franchise owner has 4 vans so it might be a good money.

Best advice I ever heard about grass (the green stuff in your garden that you walk on not the other kind) was to spray beer all over it.

Yeah the Greenthumb guy in my neck of the woods has 4 Mercedes Vito vans so it must be good.

If they have our vans on road they must be good at marketing could be worth learning their methods,

My background is in Horticulture and this was a franchise waiting to happen 30 years ago, the concept is simple and like most, gives the impression that simply buying the machinery and products, plus a short introductory course will make you an " expert "Yeahhhhhhhhhh !

I was the Golf Course Construction / Maintenance and Management lecturer at a Further Education College before accidentally getting into the cleaning industry.

You could easily make a real mess of grass, or fail to get the required result, on a number of occasions, but, if you are a reasonably competent gardner, with an abilty to adapt to different circumstances, you could make a reasonable income throughout our growing period -----April to September.

The equipment and products necessary, can be purchased Nationally at relatively little cost ...........knowledge???

i used to work for greenthumb. the boss always said running costs were huge, he had 6 vans and premises. franchise royalties were something like 10 percent of turnover and cost of chemicals etc were all quite expensive, even at the reduced rates they got them for. personally i would not want to run a lawncare business. i was the manager and had to deal with all the angry customers, problem is the stuff we did to lawns was fantastic and cheap but then the customer would muck up their lawn and blame us. also there is a lot more to it than meets the eye. the different chemicals/methods required to keep a lawn nice makes carpet cleaning seem simple. why do you think i switched!

I assume they make their money in volume walking from one house to the next taking 20mins at each house.

Carpet cleaning cant be done like this as it takes 10-20mins just to set up before you do anything, its not regular work and every house dosent need cleaning at the one time.

Still their marketing is great.

In the last 2 weeks I must have seen at least 6 of these vans around my area. And not from the same franchise either.
I spoke to one guy who was employed and he said he was leaving because he was bored of doing the same thing everyday ie spray the weeds and put some grass feeder down.
Apparently the franchise owner was doing quite well though, although as I said to him....supply and demand.....to much supply and the prices will drop.

My former neighbour, who worked with BMW moved to Australia...................within six months he quit the motor trade having spotted an opportunity......................

A year later, he has a substantial business supplying and maintaining artificial grass.

Its funny you should mention that Cleaned a Suite for a Guy who has an artificial Grass laying company in the States.
