Van question
« on: April 05, 2008, 07:33:46 pm »
I have for some time now been looking at getting a larger van i have a scudo at the moment its a 2ltr non turbo and is slow and sluggish and i have looked at the ducato/relay/boxer and also the transit but the ones i have looked at are also 2ltr but turbo diesel so with a 650ltr tank and all the other equipment needed are these just more of the same being slow and sluggish
Any feedback from owners of these types of vans would be great

Depends what you class as "sluggish".  I've got a standard 2.0lt Ducato with a 400lt tank in it.

Goes fast enough for me, and pulls the weight fine.  I used to use a Courier diesel 1800.  The perfomance was b****y pathetic. Bearing in mind that the Ducato is about three times as big with a comparable engine, I reckon its the bees knees ;D

transits are a bit weak round the clutch area with their dual mass flywheels, and at £550 a time expensive.vauxhall/renault have trouble with gearboxes on the vivaros and engine problems on the movano's, but they are supposed to be getting it sorted. Ducato/relay/boxer's are ok but they are having teething problems with coolant pipes across the engine bay, blowing fairly regularly.

your van maybe sluggish, and the swb transit with the stripe might be quick and look good but how fast do yo want to go with a full tank of water slopping about in the back making your van unstable??

I am not expecting sports car performance from a van its just i have to go to some well out of the way places up hill and down dale and often end up travelling in first gear just to get up them and to be quite honest its embarassing when you have a stream of traffic behind you so something with abit of oomph is required

So they turned onto the back straight at Snetterton virtually together, then Tiff was lapped halfway down the back straight?

I know it is the longest straight in th UK (I hit 182 down it on my fireblade), and that the VW is fast, but I didn't realise it was as fast as the millenium falcon!

Why do TV people treat us like idiots?

  Nice van though.

if your happy with what you've got why not get the turbo'd version instead. Its supposed to be a good van

I test drove the 174 transporter on friday,it`s an awesom van in every way.The guy told me it was spotless but when i turned up it had 12 egg sized dents all round it and he wouldn`t drop the price,i`ll keep looking for another one, simply the best van there is.

I have a 2.0HDI Expert (same as the Scudo) it goes quite well.  Also have a 174BHP Transporter, and i love it, goes really really well.  Took a test drive in the new 205Bhp Vito - like it too.

would still recommend the transporter before anything else though.

For an extra £500 you can get the transporter up to 210bhp,not that you`d need to.
