trolley/van
« on: April 03, 2008, 08:23:55 pm »
Im sure this ? has been asked many times on here, but ive just started wfp with a van mount,my houses are mainly 5 beds with long drives and windows that reach right around to the other side of the house,im using all my hose sometimes and having to move the van every 2 to 3 houses, reeling in each time, although it does seem to have proved quicker than trad, its a right pain! im thinking the trolley will be so much easier?

Hi Mike

hows your neck? have you had a good day

youve got a van mount so you basically want to know what people use with their van mount a trolley or a backpack

personally if i had a van mount i would use a backpack

but all my works suited for my freedom trolley i would not be without it

How long isd your hose.  50m or 100m (or somethingf else?).  I find it much easier with 100m microbore.  I sometimes used to daisy chain two 50m half inch hoses together.

thats where the sack truck and pump box / battery comes in, a 25 L wil hold 30 L when filled to the brim

<------- a guide on the DIY site, e.mail me for a link, all the bits are listed on the DIY forum to build a pump box

flat roofs used to be fine when we used the ladder we could just walk on them

but flat roofs with wfp are a real pain  :'(

Well I sometimes extend my microbore to well over 50m.  It can be fiddly if I get it in a knot but I've done the trolley route too.  My preference is long hose over trolley.  Not necessarily everyone's preference though.

100m of microbore is an absolute must!!
And with a decent steel reel the speed at which you can wind it in is really very fast.
I've yet to find a house it won't go around, and I've some pretty big properties.

By and large, 100m of microbore is better than a trolley, and I am also talking from experience as a trolley system was how I got into WFP.
If you have lots of 5 bed houses with big drives and other big accounts then the van mount should win every time.

Flat roofs?

I have a Nissan Primastar, and I carry inside it a 6ft tripple extension ladder for access to flat roofs and the like.

You just have to be organised and that isn't as easy as you think, you have to re-think the way in which you clean windows...

how come you wouldnt favor a trolley? did you have problems with it? Isnt having more than 50m of hose out frustrating and time consuming?

I use a trolley which has a hose reel with about 60metres of minibore and carries 30litre of water. the reason i use it is because i do areas where i would have to move my van dozens of times to get the work done. Ialso use the trolley because i don't like having hose over public foot paths because of the trip hazard and also because there is more likely hood of pulling it through dog muck.
I usually park my trolley in the front garden and walk around to the back of the house pulling the hose with me then start at the back top windows and work round to the front top windows then do the same for downstairs windows.
I would recomend that you consider how much water you need when you fill up a trolley so that when it comes to putting it back in the van it is empty and therefore easier to pick up.

stick with it a bit longer then consider getting a trolley if you don't get on any better.

i have a very compact round

i would have to move my van many times a day, but as i have a trolley is stays put and i wheel around my trolley

no hose issues, no moving the van

only down side is, i have to spend a few mins after work filling up my 25 L barrels, though i would have to fill up my van tank if i had a van based system, so i guess the imt scale would be similar
