4040 trickle
« on: April 03, 2008, 08:15:32 am »
I have a 4040,

I have noticed that making the water is taking longer and longer over the last 5 days any ideas why?

I turned waste on full for 20 mins yesterday normally I dont have a problem and make water in the evening after work but had to leave on all night for about 150L of water max it is about 6 months old.

They might be working on the mains, how much PSI does it come out?

Check TDS immediately after membrane.  If that's rising sharply alonmg with the lower production it may well be the membrane.  As 6 months have elapsed, it sounds like the pre filters will need chanbging.  Hope you've not left it too late as it could bve a membrane to change as well.

I think Ian changes his filters every four weeks. Seems to be a few membrane problems lately on here concerning 4040 systems for some reason.

from what ive read so far, with a tds of 500! hes going to need a softener, the membrane must be clog with lime scale or something, i think thats what softener's do

of btw how do you regenerate a water softener

I think a WS is probably needed although from what I remember Ian's system is all on his van so that might be a bit difficult.

Automatic WS's have a regen button on them, it basically flushes salt waster through the WS vessel.

so how much does it cost to top them up?

you must be able to buy a mobile one, otherwise a membrane every 6 months is a costly way of doing things.

I was wondering if there might be a case for getting a water sample analysed.  Where I get my water from, I have needed an iron pre-filter in the last half year.  I changed it a couple of days ago and it was very discoloured too.  Mind you, the sediment pre filter looked as clean as the one that was going in to replace it.  The problem is that the contaminants can change after persistent heavy rainfall.
