waste water ratio
« on: March 30, 2008, 02:19:34 pm »
Hi i set up a 40/40 ro and 22l di system with a pump a short time ago,it has been making 100L PURE water in about 35 mins and the WASTE  was 125L. Can anyone tell me if these amounts and time are ok. Also how much will 1000L cost on the water bill so i can put some money away for the bill. I thought wfp was going to be so easy, found it to be alot harder than it looked, THANKS

100L in 35 mins is good, I dont waste that amount of water though I also have a 4040.

do you have a booster pump on yours I am coming straight from tap at 650 in 4/5 hours

Sounds like you could get away with lowering your waste ratio. You need to experiment with the ratio to see at what point it affects the output TDS. There will be an optimum point where you get minimum waste and still get low TDS.

Some find that they can reduce the waste down to as low as 20% as long as they flush the membrane well before each fill.

Yes i do have a booster pump,as the tap preasure was low, and i set the pump as high as i could . It is running half way on the blue on the preasure dial ,with no pump it was half way on the yellow. So i think i will turn the pump down and see if i can cut the waste down. I will also flush for a few mins first aswell and see if i can cut waste down as i am so high. Longer time and less waste is better but still alot to learn. THANKS for the help.

Turning the pump down will actually increase your waste as you are putting less pressure on your RO membrane, hence more water will flush across the surface and down the waste.  Keep the pump pressure high but turn the waste ratio down until you get to the optimum point for waste versus tds.

I bought my 40-40 from RO-man and the instructions state that if I run it at less than 3-1 I will damage the membrane.  What's your opinion?

The 4040 Membranes from RO-Man do seem to require a different set-up to many others, which is why we have stopped selling them. They just do not seem quite as efficient as most other brands.

However I would imagine that it could be reduced slightly (perhaps 2:1) as long as you flushed regularly.

How do you turn the waste down,is it done using the flushing valve .adjusting it so it is slightly open all the time.As i have been turning it off completly.
