Hi  ,
been window cleaning now for about over 15 years and not getting any younger.

I am thinking about going over to water fed pole on some of the schools i clean to make it easy.

I see myself using pole only on average 1 and 1/2 days out of every 5 worked. A lot of my work is pubs mostly ground floor so i can't imagine using wfp on these and probably won't use on houses either as i have been choosy over the years and have picked the best ones...

Which system would anyone recommend( drive astra van ).If so do you have any leaflets or links explaining  this. I have looked at purefreedom.co.uk and liked the 250 litre set up for van mounted..

If you only intend to use it 1 1/2 days a week then maybe the purefreedom trolley would be more beneficial

Here are a couple of system choices:

www.brodexbms.co.uk have the E-Compact 250RO system for about £1800

Even if you only plan on using it for a couple of days a week make sure that you go for a big enough system. I almost guarantee that within 3 years all of your work will be WFP.

Before you spend loads of money on a shiny new system, which will might become useless after a few months, I would build a small diy system, which is not going to cost much.

All you would need is a

water tank
DI Bottle with resin
Pump
Pole with brush head
100m microbore Hose and hose reel

With the above you can start up as a wfp cleaner, and its only going to cost a couple of hundred pounds.

If your wfp work increases which I reckon it will, then you can either add more equipment or invest in a fancy new system.

I would go for the Sureclean trolley.  Interchangeable barrels.

The reason for wanting the wfp is not to gain more work but to make the work i have easy. If using the wfp is as easy and less time as you all say, then i would pick up more work as at the moment i am turning work away.

Will the trolley systems hold enough water or can you run straight off water mains with any of these set ups as all the work i want it for have outside taps or do the tanks hold the purified water already.

I notice purefreedom selling a 250 litre van mounted diy kit  for around £500 +vat (which is nothing for the £40-£50 per hour window cleaners ha ha ha ) has anyone got one of these..

The price for the purefreedom trolley is more than the 250 litre diy kit which again gives the problem trolley or van mounted ?

Also williamx is it really that easy to do you own set up..

Are there any window cleaners is the Hadleigh / Benfleet or surrounding areas willing to give a demonstration of the wfp..

I dont know how fast you are as a trad window cleaner but just so you are aware it can take a long time to get upto speed using a pole system you basically have to learn your round again doing windows in a different order or even changing the order you do the houses where you park where to lay the hose and the whole different technique dont think that suddenly you are going to be able to do more work once you have learned all these different things then thats when you start to speed up
In my experience the only benefits early on with wfp is the safety aspect and the not being so tired at the end of the day after all that though go for it it is worth spending the money

I cant see point of using wfp on houses as it takes time to set up, like you say. I think its a case of you can't teach a old dog new tricks. But i must admit can't wait to buy one and give it a go, just want to know which system is for me.

I`ll only use it on certain jobs,i think we`ve all been guilty of saying that beleive me after a while you`ll use it on everything you have.Once you know what your doing you`ll cringe at the way you used to clean windows.

If you pay for my fuel costs, I am quite willing to come to you and show how a wfp system works, or you can come to Birmingham and I will give you as much experence of cleaning various windows with wfp.

I first heard of the system a few years back from a customer when all the talk of regs regarding ladder use first hit the media. I've cleaned windows now for thirty years and the thought of working with a pole with a brush on the end and hoses trailing about everywhere, not to mention all the water seemed clumsy to me.

However, I along with a few other w/cleaners I know who've been in the trade for many years, have begun to feel the effects of all that wear and tear on the joints from climbing up and down a ladder up to 100 a day.

That plus an accident at work that ultimately cost me the use of an ankle made me give it a serious look. I now use a 'Freedom' trolley to do just the upstairs of 99% of my round and still trad the downs. It works well for me as most of my work is terraced houses and all 400 of my customers live within a half mile radius.

Now, instead of working to 5.30pm each day I'm often finnished by 3.30 or 4pm.

I laugh at myself when I consider what I used to think about WFP.

This week I've had several unsolicited positive comments from customers and passers by regarding both the quality of the finish and the safety issue.
