Good to see that we see along the same line.

I don't think the £950 vs £600 TV argument is relevant to w/cleaning.

What if the price difference was £50 or even £100 - but one store offered a longer warranty, or included installation or a stand to put it on?

I got a custy recently at £20 when her current cleaner was doing it for £15. She was a recommend by one of my custies across the road. She phoned me, I quoted and asked why she was looking. She said her current cleaner (also wfp) was pleasant but was unreliable, and always missed a certain window. (pole not long enough, I guess) She noticed that her cleaner missed the tops of the frames above the windows (not due to vents either.) and only took about 15 minutes.

I said I might only take a couple of minutes more but that all those issues would be addressed. She took me on.

The point is that for a small difference of £5 in price (but a high percentage - 25%) people will pay more, trust you and keep you if you are reliable.

It's a game of three halves!

Yes it is relevant! Why its an example as people are saying ive been under cut! It does not matter wether its by £300 pounds or 0.50p.  Its always different when

1. You are looking to buy you want it cheap as possible but with quality and warranty.
2. You are looking to sell you want the most profit possible for as little time as possible.

I also said

But I know how you feel its happened to me a few times and I have had to rethink.. and make sure that our work is so top notch the customers wont want to leave

So yes you are right you can win custies with a higher price. But like I said if his work was top notch in the first place you probably would not have gained this client. He lost because he was not giving full attention or completing what the customer expected. That was not to do with the price that was because of crap work!

its 33% malc

Quite right Stan the Man - Sorry, I was working off of my price - ie £20 - 25% = £15, not £15 plus 33.3% = £20.
It's a game of three halves!
