advice needed, fixing tank in new van.
« on: March 04, 2008, 04:50:18 pm »
I shall be buying a peugeot expert by the end of the week and want to put a 500 ltr tank in it.
I have decided to buy a fixing kit and then get a garage to fit it.
These are my 2 possible options:
http://www.cleantech.co.uk/catalog/product_info.php?cPath=22_25&products_id=90
or
http://www.cleaningspot.co.uk/cgi-bin/ss000002.pl?SECTIONID=Tank_accessories_and_parts.html&NOLOGIN=1
(5th down page)

Whats peoples opinions of the two above? if I were to go with the ratchets I'd opt for a layflat tank but do you think the metal straps on cleaning spots ones are strong/good enough to fit an upright?

I know with either of them the most important part is having them fixed to the chassis, hence a garage fitting them. and I know I could go to a metal fabricators and have something built but I really dont have the time plus my current van has broken and need to get a system up and running pronto, so I'm asking for advice specifically on these two products and opinions from others with a similar sized van set up and if it was diy, how you did it, cheers  :-\ ;D

Get a lay flat tank and buy the ratchet straps from a DIY store or similar,if you look around you can get them dirt cheap.

It depends on what van you have,if you have a van with a steel bulkhead you don`t always need a cage for the tank, with a flat tank strapped properly providing you don`t drive like an idiot you`ll be ok.

get a cage and be safe, having straps and not driving like a wolly to be safe with it tell me that it is not safe, most accidents are caused by someone hitting you and taking a chance with 530+kg of water would not be an option IMO.

Agree, think the layflat will be an easier fit with ratchets, have a 250 ltr at the mo and did just that with ratchets from a motor store. The new van (expert) will not have a solid bukhead, just a full caged one behind the seats. Spoke to cleantech this morning about their fitting kit, in addition to the 5 ton ratchet straps they have very strong baseplates but I'm still miffed as to how these fit to the chassis? are they worth the 85 quid ?

you will need to drill through the floor look under van you will see where the chassis is you will just need to make sure you drill the right place in the floor

I`ve been told you have to do them up from underneath, the nut should be at the bottom and tightened from underneath the van.I was told that by a mechanic lol. ;D ;D ;D ;D
