Gum Removal boys
« on: February 16, 2008, 08:39:44 am »
I'm currently looking to add a gum removal service (street cleaning) to my existing WFP cleaning.

I've looked into machinery and pretty much decided to go with Miraclean. Although their pricing seems a bit steep. £3495 for machine & £2495 for the genny??? Anyone have any experience or thoughts on my choice? Or any alternate recommendations?

After looking through the site there seems to be a bit of diference on prices per sq.metre. I have done a bit research and have a contact in the council who said they had someone who was quoting £1 a sq.metre. Now this seems quite low to me. Is this a council thing or is the majority of work priced like this?

After contacting manufacturers the average sq.meterage a day is approximately 300 per 8 hour shift. Is this achievable or just sales bluster?

And finally, is the work sustainable?

Any answers gratefully received.  ;)

I wouldn`t  be tempted to splash out that kind of money on machinery etc  without getting the contract first!

Why don`t you hire to begin with?

My local council has bought there own equipment/van/staff to carry out this work!

Thanks for the replies

Davy, we have secured a grant and have put in two prices for the purchase of a new machine, we can only get the grant if we buy new. Thanks anyway.

Keith, we are well down the road in negotiations with 3 councils and are the preferred bidder but also got work lined up elswhere, as said above, we have secured funding for the machine so not too much of a financial worry.

One of the councils we have had meetings with have their own machine but because of manpower shortages and costs they cannot run it. When we had one of our meetings we were shown costings for the council to run a two man team and they were looking at £60k a year, They could not justify this so were happy to subcontract.

Good luck to ya with the contracts - your obviously clued up!

Without telling us too much confidential detail, and out of curiosity - what was the minimum the council was willing to spend given they think £60K is over budget?
What was the basics for the tender in terms of the areas that wanted cleaning?
