Hi

Following on from the unbelivable post what are people charge for doing a full 3 bed house + suite.

To be honest the last time i was asked to do this was in December & i charged £395.

I hate customers who ask this sort of question without giving any other info.
There's a vast difference between a 1940's 3 bed, compared to a 1960's 3 bed compared to a circa 2007 3 bed rabbit hutch.
Anywhere between £200 and £400

I must be cheaper than most on here, i charge £85 for a 3pc suite and an average of £170.00 for a 3 bed house so £255.00 in total ???

Hi Neil

Thats a fair comment, i was quoting a larger than average 3 bed house.

The quote was based on 30p a square foot & every room was quoted on area.

The upholstery was actually a 2 + 3 setter.

£40 / Seat  :'(, I dream of those prices, we're not even getting half of that and I know we are doing an excellent job.

Our local competition, one of which have been established for over 15 years and have a big loyal customer base, are charging between £8 - £12 per seat.

Same with carpets, competition are charging from £18 per room.

At the moment i am not having to compete on prices ............ my usp locally, is my awards and no one can compare that in cost terms.
This will dissipate over time and others will catch up on awards and recognition ....... then i will be back competing on level playing field.............. mind you, England is a world cup winning side....... even if it was 42 years ago ........ so i will always be an 'award winning carpet cleaner' ............. the year will drop off my van/stationary and will be replaced with 'multi award winning'  ;D

I am getting jobs at the moment, simply through the awards and the publicity they have generated ............. rarely am i asked to estimate in advance, simply quote per metre/ seat price ......... turn up and confirm exact total prior to doing job. Am always quoting highest end costs and on arrival, a job the customer thought may be £400 may actually be as low as £360-£320 with discount of 10-20%, depending on volume and condition. Suppose it is BAIT & SWITCH in reverse, but the concept is appreciated by my customers without hesitation.

Chris did you have to put yourself forward to be in for a shout of the award?

No but did mention the awards to a few well placed customers........ HEY PRESTO ............ same one nominated me in 2006 & 2007 in Sutton Guardian but two i never knew of did it for me in Wandsworth.
Spoke to one of the judges afterwards and he is a scientist........ he told me that the microsplitter technology has been around for years but was surprised it took so long to catch on !!

If you have anything like this in your local papers then i suggest you point it out to your customers........ it leads to loads of other PR .......... see upcoming Cleaning Matters  ;)

Have got the bug now and already been informed by local Guardian hat i am nominated for 2008 plus i have started to enter myself into South London Business Awards for this year .........small business and environmental sections.
