Stair treads

Looking after a staircase. It has black edgings. How can I give this a shiny finish ?  Could I give  it a coat of floor seal/polish ?

First and foremost, does your client want it shiney? Also will you be increasing the risk of a slip or fall by using a product? How has your client asked you to deal with the stairs?

I have been asked to dust and vac. But I have seen another staircase with shiny treads and it looks so much better and they were not slippery.

Plus aren't a lot of floor seals/polishes non slip ?

Thats what i was asking you...If you have been asked to dust and vac then i would be very wary of doing anything else. You personally may think the stairs would look shiney, and indeed I and many other people may agree, but it is not for you or me to say. For all we know the client may like the dull look. I would only ever suggest to a client that they have a floor treatment if, and  only if, the floors were giving me a problem. You could end up making work for yourself in the long run, unless of course the floors are giving you grief as they are? Certainly i wouldnt treat them without permission from the client.
