Leak in Hotel Carpet
«
on:

Hi,
A new customer of mine (a hotel) has had a leak on a corridor. I have extracted as best I can with my prochem steampro and have a dryer on it but the Foam backing is retaining a huge amount of water.
Has anyone any tips on getting this water out so that the back of the carpet will dry quicker?
Thanks
John

hi there,
the carpet needs to be lifted and then the back of the carpet dried as well, my next concern would be if there is that much water in the carpet, has it gone into the subfloor or floor void, and therefore more intense structural drying needs to be looked at.

Martin is right, you need to lift the carpet and install a air mover to help dry the back of the carpet plus you will need to install a dehumidifier. How large is the affected area? What is the sub floor? Concreate or wood? You will also need to apply a anti-microbial.

Thanks,
Sub Floor is Concrete, Area affected is about 5 Square meters but has gone down one floor and come through the ceiling onto the carpet below on the ground floor. Area affected on ground floor is about 10-15 sq meters
I will have the carpet lifted and place dryers on the backing.
Thanks for your help,
John

hi there
once you get into that situation, we would be looking at a drying program, the ceiling, walls etc.

Have you got a moisture meter? if not then hire one. Check the walls & floors to both affected areas & also check the adjacient rooms.
