I was talking to a poster of 7 years on Friday and he says it's the fact that they start early and get their post sorted early so they can get finished early and the fact that they don't use public transport to get to their round they use their own cars so time is speeded up but they don't get compensated for fuel.

Shaun
Ask your postie what he uses when he does is annual time check to do his round. Them that use the cars will use a pedal bike to do the check because it takes a lot long, thus giving the impression that they do this every day on their Job.
Postie's always want to cut corners, its about time that they Clock in at 6am and clock out at 2.30 and stay working. Can you imagine how good the service would be if they did a days work.

I can't believe that they do a full days graft on what they are paid and the time they have to get up to work, I know they took the job but whe they did the benefits of finishing early were acceptable to both employer and employee. You can understand why now they have trouble filling positions in the PO as who would want to work for them?
If there becomes an open market it may become like the US where staff move from postal company to postal company after being sacked for none delivery or dumping in the US it isn't classed as a serious offence as it is here, I believe imprisonment as it is HM post and that carries alot of weight.
After speaking to a US cc leaflets are commonly dumped that's why they do val pak in the papers etc as the distribution on their post is rubbish.

I think it must be really bad in the states because you are always hearing of Posties going bonkers and shooting thier co-workers.
The trouble is it's all relative. Try being agency staff for the private letter delivery firms, naff pay, no pension, no 'real' holiday pay and treated like excrement.

Amusing to read the comments about posties, particularly when they are earning FOR A WEEK what many on here claim to earn IN A DAY.
Delivering mail in all weathers is not for the faint hearted and it wasn't the posties who stopped the " second post ", which had previousley extended their working day to around one o'clock.
